Tip #27. Advertise Your Early Wake Up Habit

Added: 8/08/2007 11:16:00 PM

This trick works the same way as giving a promise works. Matthew Stibbe from BadLanguage blog recommends to boast widely about your new early-birdiness:

It makes feel good to tell people ‘oh I get up at 6am’. Also, my friend Stuart says ‘we are the stories we tell about ourselves.’ If I describe myself as a punctual, early-rising, efficiency robot then maybe that’s what I’ll become (when I’m not a bohemain, enterpreneurial writer genius ).

Once you succeed with waking up early – tell your friends and parents about it, write about it on your blog, put a calendar on the wall in your room – do all you can to spread the news around. You may even respond to some emails early in the morning to make people wonder what made you wake up at this time. They’ll ask you, rest assured. It's up to you what explanation you are going to come up with, but if you want to be known as a goal-oriented, productive, efficient, serious person, this is your chance not only to let people know about it, but actually become such a person!

Sweet dreams and easy wake ups to you!

I should try this one out, I'm definitely not an early riser. I usually get up about 9 but would love to be up by 7. Very cool idea for a site by the way!

This is the only way I am successful at getting up in the morning, when I know I have to be somewhere at a certain time. Otherwise I sleep way too late. I just found your blog and will become a regular reader while trying to break all my bad sleep habits.

This is a great tip for waking up early. If you fool your mind that you are indeed an early bird, it will start to believe so its self and you will manage to wake up easier. Waking up at 5 or 6 am may lead to an increase of productivity but it also means going to bead early.

Excellent article. What really helps me every time and every morning get out of the bed is motivation. When you don´t have it in yourself and you don´t feel it - you might have serious toubles to get out of the bed.

I agree with you I think that the best thing that you can do is tell everbody that you are waking up early and you just have to keep that promise because nobody likes to loose trust of their family or friends.

This is some kind of autosugestion or self-hypnosis by tricking your mind to act this way. It's like in NLP (neuro-lingvistic programming), when you program your brain to respond in a manner, in a situation, to use inner resources and anchors from previous situations in the past.

Wake up an hour early before leaving the house. This may seem to make a person more tired than ever, but believe it or not, this can help you prepare for a busy day and get energized. Try getting in a work out before class to get the blood pumping.

When your alarm clock goes off, for instance, avoid telling yourself that you need more sleep. Promise people that you'll wake up early so that you'll motivate yourself to do so. After all, if you don't fulfill that promise, you'll be held accountable

My technique for waking up early is to set the alarm clock as far away from the bed as possible, this way I have to get out of the bed in order to shut it down. After that I immediately go to the bathroom and was my face. Works every time
