Tip #41. Get a Pet! (Video)

Added: 11/11/2007 6:54:06 PM

Wake up!

Okay, getting a pet BECAUSE you want to wake up early is a wrong thing. Do not do it. Never ever get a pet unless you love pets and unless you know you can take care of them. Pets are like kids – if you get one, you are held fully responsible for its health and life. You need to feed them, you need to walk them, you need to play with them and they need to be taken to a doctor, too. Check www.pets4you.com for a complete list... It’s going to be your new family member so you must have time for this living being. If you are a busy person and don’t have anyone in the family to handle animals don’t get them.

Most pet owners, especially dog owners, are early risers. If you don’t know why you probably should not get a dog. Few readers of my blog wrote to me - "My dog is my only wake up device, and it’s flawless." I don’t have a pet myself but watching a number of people walking the dogs or running with them early in the morning in the park nearby I have no reason not to believe my readers. Many people also say pets help them get more organized. Try forgetting to feed your dog ...

If like me you don’t have pets but wonder how exactly pets help to wake up early in the morning, watch this YouTube video. I’m sure you’ll want to get a pet after it ...

Sweet dreams and happy early wake ups to you all (and your pets, too)!

LOL Great video and kudo's to the maker! Our cat is exactly like that(except for the bat of course) and wakes us anywhere between 5 and 6.30.

Hi! This is such a cool blog! While I agree, for the most part, that pets (dogs make superb "alarm clocks," I think this tip is a bit of a dangerous one.

If you have a pet who's kind of late sleeper, they can be very warm and snuggly and can make it *extremely* difficult for you to get out of bed (And yes, as the proud owner of a lazy little chihuahua, I am speaking out of experience).

This is so true! And daylight savings time doesn't matter to my dog, he's up earlier than ever.

You see, HAVE TO is a word we can't deny No need to blame a pet!

This is so true. On cold mornings when you don't have to go to work, you have to love that dog to be willing to crawl out of bed just because he wants to go out and see what's going on in the world.

Pets are also good for providing a means of discipline and routines in one's life. However one should be careful to only obtain a pet when one is ready for that level of discipline and routine. There is nothing sadder than a neglected pet.

I have 2 dogs and they sleep in later than I do in the morning, In fact I'm the one that wakes them up!
Funny video though.

I HAVE to wake up at 6am to walk my dog. It's only right. Would you want to hold it in until your bladder popped, because your owner wouldn't get out of bed???

Getting a pet will not only get you up early but keep you up all the time!!!!

Pets are great, so long as you have a lifestyle where the pet would not be neglected. May have to wake up a little extra extra early to make sure the pet gets some extra attention!

LMAO Great video. We substitute the dog with our 4 year old she is up by 5am everyday. Talk about not sleeping.

I love that video :D
...however, I think this tip depends on the pet. My cat will turn up early in the morning and curl-up next to me, which only lengthens my sleep-in...

Digby says:

It definitely depends on the dog. My pug has a habit of encouraging me to sleep in, especially when the weather outside isn't something he wants to walk in.

We have also two cats. Sometimes, we put them in the livingroom, with the door closed. But now they know how to open the door (sic!) :-| So, when the alarm goes, they both jump on the bed

Yeah, or get a kid. First I had a dog and he would sleep till noon, no kidding. Now I have a kid and he wakes up at 6am quite a bit. No, don't get a kid just for waking up early, but it sure does work.

Great Video. That is the reason I keep my dog in the other room when I sleep. He is just as good as an alarm clock. Same time every morning he get howling. I just wish he knew what Weekend was.

I think getting a pet is a great idea if you want to wake up early...the only problem is you won't have any control over how early. Good luck!

I think to wake up early is not a big reason on having a pet...Don't make it a reason...Having a pet is a big responsibility...you need to give your pet the best care they want...feed them a nice food, give them a proper pet supply and care...so if your planning to have pet think about a good reason not just you want something for it...

If you can handle a pet, then I would say get one. They certainly won't let you sleep in, but don't get one just to wake you up. Get one because you have the time, energy, love, funds, and devotion to take care of the animal. The early morning, "lets go lets go lets go lets go" is just an extra
