Tip #5. Let The Music Wake You Up

Added: 6/8/2007 2:01:18 PM

Do you know that interesting fact that NASA program has a long-standing tradition to greet the crew each day during the mission with an appropriate musical interlude? It's time for you to join the space crew

All you will need is a music player with a built-in alarm clock. Set the player to play your favorite song and set the time of alarm. I try to use fast-paced, energizing music. Alternative way is to use a radio with an alarm clock. This way you wake up with "new alarm" every day. You may try it if you feel you get used to the same alarm every day and start ignoring it.

What I usually do is I put my favorite CD into the player, select the track, set alarm clock to 6am, and - whoa! My favorite song wakes me up! For me it's simply the best way to get up in the morning! Not only it's easier to wake up when you hear your favorite tune (I just jump out of bad when I hear it!), but it helps building a habit. Your body gets used to this tune and whenever you hear it your body gets a signal to wake up! Few people said that they select a song with appropriate lyrics. Or how about Green Day's Wake Me Up When September End?

You can actually buy one those all-in-one devices like Homedics Sound Spa with 6 Natural Sounds, CD Player that combines alarm clock with time projected on the ceiling, CD Player and sound machine with natural sounds. You can choose to wake to sounds of nature, radio, CD or alarm. By the way, additional tip here is to change alarm sounds from time to time so you avoid getting used to them.

Note! People sleeping in the room with you may not like loud music early in the morning! So be careful, you are warned :)

I wake up every morning, while its still dark, by the recorded sound of buddhist bells. I picked up a set of these bells from an eclectic music store over the summer, which make a single-toned, pleasant-sounding chime.

I then recorded the bell on my cell phone, and then set that sound file as my alarm sound. Its a pleasant way to wake up, rather than be startled by an alarm clock. Then, I drink water from my water bottle first thing which I found to wake my body up, so even when my mind isn't quite ready - it soon will be.

I have a program called aurora for Mac that lets me choose a playlist on iTunes to wake up to. Really cool stuff and lets you have a progressive volume alarm.

I like waking up to music but I have found that I will sleep through it rather than actually get up.

I like waking up to happy upbeat music- it helps get you out of bed I think.

I wake up everyday with my favorite musics, nothing beats that. You feel inspired to start the day with a positive attitude, starting by getting your butt out of bed

I started doing this several years ago and what a difference it makes. Before then I was always cranky in the morning due to that annoying sound that woke me up. Now I can here music that I enjoy and not a constant buzzing. For you skeptics, it really does make you get up easier and start your day off in a good mood.

Since I don't have a radio with a built-in -alarm, I tried using one of my favorite songs. By the end of the week, I hated my favorite song because it just replays the horrid idea of waking up

I tried this, worst thing I ever did. I used to play my favorite song every morning and do you know what happened? Its now not my favorite song because the song now reminds me of getting woke up. My suggestion is to play your worst song and that will get you out of bed in no time because you just want to turn it off

Great advice indeed! Listening to your favourite tracks to wake you is definitely better than listening to the annoying ring of the alarm. A word of caution though, avoid using loud or extremely high tempo music because getting shocked out of sleep is not the best way to wake up. It is harmful to the heart, and bad for the day ahead. That is why alarms with gradually increasing volumes and tempos are getting popular.

Have to say this is actually a sweet way of waking up. I often hear one of my favorite songs and I instantly feel like getting out of bed to dance to the tune
